[11.10.2023] The UDE condemns the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel, and we join the families and friends of the victims in their mourning. The people of Israel are in the thoughts of the members of our university as we reflect on the many consequences of this escalation of violence, and as we try to imagine the situation with which students and researchers from Israel, our colleagues, partner universities and friends must now live. The UDE is committed to peace, democracy and conflict-resolution as principles forming the basis of our actions. We sincerely hope for a diplomatic solution to the conflict and an end to the spiral of violence and suffering of people on both sides. We support the right of Israel to defend itself.
